Fort Bend County Sports Hub Reopens in Richmond with Exciting Upgrades

Fort Bend County Sports Hub

The steady cluck-cluck of pickleballs echoed through Richmond as Fort Bend County leaders celebrated the soft opening of the newly renovated Fort Bend County Sports Hub on August 22, 2025. The facility, once known as Slater Sports Zone, has been transformed into a modern community hub where residents of all ages and abilities can connect, play, and thrive.

A Community Investment That Benefits Everyone

During the opening ceremony, County Judge KP George, Precinct 1 Commissioner Vincent Morales, and Fort Bend Parks and Recreation leaders praised the Fort Bend County Sports Hub as both a recreational outlet and a long-term investment in the community.

“This is a facility built to serve everyone, regardless of age or ability,” said Judge George.

The Fort Bend County Sports Hub also partners with The Arc of Fort Bend to host Special Olympics practices, ensuring inclusivity and opportunities for all residents.

Fort Bend County Sports Hub Already a Local Favorite

Even before the official ribbon-cutting, the Fort Bend County Sports Hub was buzzing with activity. Since quietly reopening earlier this year, it has logged over 21,000 visits for basketball, volleyball, and pickleball.

  • Upgrades unveiled at the soft opening include:

    • Enhanced Wi-Fi

    • Online registration and payment options

    • A backup generator that allows the gym to double as an emergency shelter

“Out of 254 counties, Fort Bend County is one of the few that has such a strong park system,” said Commissioner Morales. “This hub is only going to grow more popular.”

Summer Hot Spot for Pickleball Players

When the Four Corners YMCA closed this past summer, the Fort Bend County Sports Hub became the go-to spot for indoor recreation. Pickleball was especially popular, with waiting lists forming for court time.

Katy resident Buu Ong shared, “It’s very social. You can come here by yourself, and you meet a lot of different people. I’ve been coming for a few weeks, and it’s great that this option is now available.”

What’s Next for the Fort Bend County Sports Hub

While the hub is open to the public now, renovations are still ongoing. Planned upgrades include:

  • A walking track around the courts

  • Large monitors for games and events

  • A coach’s lounge for youth sports organizations

  • Expanded administrative office spaces

  • 48 new parking spots (already completed)

Fort Bend County is also seeking a major sponsor, ideally a sports medicine provider, to lease space at the hub and add even more value to the community.
